It’s time to reveal another non-profit organization supported in this year’s CCC Charity Calendar!
In one of our two Berlin locations, Berlin – Friedrichshain, there was a clear winner with 60% of the votes: „Björn Schulz Stiftung – Sonnenhof Hospiz für Kinder, Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene“ (The Björn Schulz Foundation – Sonnenhof hospice for children, adolescents and young adults).
Since 1996, the organization assists families with children with incurable and life-shortening diseases between the ages of 0 and 27. They cover the whole range of support: Sonnenhof hospice, various outpatient services, options for aftercare and relaxation, as well as mourning offers for the time after the child’s death.
With the certainty that the child’s disease will be fatal, the entire family is exposed to permanent stress. There is no space for parents’ relaxation and the care for the siblings is often neglected due to the intensive care of the child at home. That’s why the focus of the foundation’s work is on the needs of families and their relief.
And in contrast to usual hospice, which only accompanies the patients in the last phase of life, this child hospice supports the entire family from the diagnosis, through the course of the disease and even many years beyond the death of the child.
It’s already difficult to read about such sad things but it’s incomparable with what the affected families have to go through. To offer some help, CCC donates 2,000 EUR to the foundation.
